The Best Restaurants in Downtown Frederick, MD 2021

Downtown Frederick, MD has become quite the destination for small independent boutiques and restaurants.

Located near the Frederick Fair Ground and The Great Frederick Fair this weekend, downtown is the perfect place to discover something new on foot.

It’s local favorite, here at the Dave’s Cooling and Heating headquarters

There seems to always be something new and exciting popping up.

And there is also Carrol Creek Park which has a small creek that intersects with North Market Street, the main street running through downtown Frederick.

Perfect for the family, a date, or just hanging out with your friends…we wanted to write about some of our favorite places over a few articles, starting with some of the best restaurants!

The Best Sandwiches in Downtown Frederick

South Market Sandwich Company

There are plenty of great sandwich options in downtown Frederick, but this one takes the cake.

Not only because they have the largest variety of sandwiches…but they are all really, really good.

Ranging from classics like an Italian sub or Club sandwich…they also have gourmet grilled cheeses with everything from Philadelphia cheese steak style to a hot brown from Kentucky.

Where to go on Date Night in Downtown Frederick

The Wine Kitchen on The Creek

Located along Carrol Creek, the Wine Kitchen is a modern, seasonal steakhouse that serves local sourced, high-quality cuts of meat and a farm-fresh menu which includes several seafood and vegetarian options.

As the name says, they have a vast selection of dynamic wines and also handcrafted cocktails, perfect for a fun night out with your boo.

Best Pizza in Downtown Frederick

Pistarro’s

Pistarro’s serves pizza like they do in Italy – even using an oven that was handmade in Naples, the birthplace of pizza.

The pizza pies are about 12-13 inches and have a thin, light airy crust with classic toppings and combinations you’d find in Italy.

Different to the starchy and doughy pizza chains, this place is certainly a treat and an homage to the real thing.

Perfect for the Family

Showroom

Located in an old car dealership just on the edge of downtown, Show Room is definitely one of our favorites on this list and perfect to take the whole family.

It even known as Family Meal before the corona pandemic but they changed their name. The food and overall vibe is still quite the same.

It’s one of Brian Voltaggio’s restaurants who is a local celebrity, having competed on Top Chef, a hit TV show. He was runner up in the sixth season.

It is like an “elevated diner” serving breakfast, lunch and dinner but with higher quality ingredients and plating that resemble a higher end restaurant.

They serve everything from perfectly made French omelettes to southern Fried chicken or shrimp and grits.

Even the desserts are spectacular.

Best New Restaurant in Downtown Frederick

Tsunami

Tsunami is a great combination of authentic Japanese foods with Western-style cuisine – a one-of-a-kind fusion that has something for everyone according to the owner on their website.

From ramen to Izakaya to tapas, all the dishes offer something slightly different but pack a flavor punch.

Perfect for lunch or dinner, this one is definitely one of our favourites and has a menu that can please everyone.

Vegan Brunch and Doughnuts

Glory Doughnuts

Glory Doughnuts is a vegan diner and doughnut shop making fresh, handmade vegan doughnuts that typically sell out every day.

They also offer a typical diner menu, but vegan. The place gets quite packed on the weekend, and the doughnuts often sell out.

Even if vegan is not your thing, we should let you know these donuts taste way better than the ones you find at the typical doughnut chains.

Best Burgers in Downtown Frederick

Max Burger and Shakes

This place is our favorite place to grab a burger in downtown Frederick.

They bake their buns in house and source their meats from the best local. farms

They even have wagyu beef which is a more expensive and rare Japanese style beef that tastes…beefier!

The burgers are classic gourmet style 7oz dry aged beef patties.

But they have one option – the Big Maxx Burger which features two 3.5 oz patties and a 3 part bun much like the Mcdonald’s Big Mac but better. Much much better.

The fries and sauces are all homemade too.

Not to mention the shakes.

You get the picture.

One Thing to Note

There are a lot of great restaurants in downtown Frederick. New things seem to be popping up on the regular. This is not an exhaustive list but they are definitely some our favorites.

The best part about downtown is that there is always something new to discover for any type of personality.

That’s why it’s a favorite at Dave’s Cooling and Heating, Frederick’s most trusted HVAC contractor.
